Stop the Death Penalty in New York

In June 2004 a court ruling effectively suspended New York's death penalty, giving us a window of opportunity to seek abolition of the death penalty in New York. While the Senate has passed a 'quick fix' bill (SB 2727) that would reinstate New York's death penalty law, Assembly Speaker Silver, who has a record as being pro-death penalty, has now indicated that New York might not need the death penalty after all. There are still many legislators on the fence and if we don't secure the additional votes we need in the next few weeks, we could lose this fight.

Take a moment to email your state Assembly member and urge them not to bring back the death penalty. All it takes is a few clicks on Amnesty International's Page.
