The United States Supreme Court has ruled that sentencing juvenile offenders to death is unconstitutional.

With its March 1st decision in Roper v. Simmons, the U.S. Supreme Court removed the US from the list of nations that execute juvenile offenders. When the Supreme Court agreed to hear the Simmons case, it was because the United States unapologetically professed that it had a right to sentence children to death and to execute them. With its bold, courageous action the Supreme Court ensures that evolving standards of decency are recognized, which allows the United States to join the rest of the international community.
